Launch of the 1st edition of Soito Reserva Alfrocheiro

After the success that Soito Reserva Monocasta wines – Encruzado, Touriga Nacional and Jaén – has achieved in recent years, behold, Soito Wines launches its first Soito Reserva Alfrocheiro, a limited edition of 1624 bottles of 0,75l and 85 Magnum bottles. The grape was harvested in 2017, in a vineyard about 30 years old, located on the property of this family project – Quinta do Soito.

The Alfrocheiro variety is an indigenous variety, also known as Alfrocheiro-Preto or, in more distant times, “Tinta Francesa de Viseu” (Pereira and Duarte, 1086). It is grown almost exclusively in Dão and represents 3% of the varieties grown in Portugal. Its origin is not known exactly, but it is known that it is relatively recent (late 19th century). This grape variety has a regular production and medium ripeness, contributing to the excellent balance between acids, sugar and tannins and the good color of the wines, at the same time that it gives them stolen and fine aromas, reminiscent of very ripe strawberries and gain complexity with the passing of years (CVR Dão).

Soito Reserva Alfrocheiro 2017 “reveals a deep and elegant aroma of very ripe red fruits, with notes of plum, blueberry and cherry, combined with expressions of fine vanilla, spices and dried fruits, combined with a light balsamic fragrance and a faint breath. In the mouth it shows outstanding complexity, is round and harmonious, with good structure and balance of well integrated tannins, promising a good aging potential. It reveals a long persistence and an exquisite bouquet, showing the character of its terroir and personality of the caste. ” (Winemaker Carlos Silva)
